About PovertyX

PovertyX is a not-for-profit organization on a mission to end world hunger, poverty, homelessness, child abuse, and human trafficking—once and for all.

Homelessness (U.S.)

In 2024, the U.S. had 771,480 people experiencing homelessness, about 23 per 10,000 people — the highest since records began, and an 18% increase from the previous year.

As of 2025, this is nearly 1 in every 530 people. About 36–40% are unsheltered, living in places not meant for habitation.

Poverty

In the U.S., the official poverty rate in 2023 was 11.1% (~36.8 million people).

Globally, 808 million people (9.9% of the world's population) are projected to live in extreme poverty in 2025 — about 1 in every 10 people.

Child Abuse (U.S.)

For 2023, there were an estimated 546,159 victims of child abuse and neglect in the U.S., a decrease from the previous year (558,899 in 2022).

In 2023, about 2,000 child fatalities were attributed to abuse and neglect. The majority of abuse victims are under age 1, and most are mistreated by one or both parents.

Human Trafficking

In the U.S. alone, the 2025 State Human Trafficking Report estimates over 500,000 people exploited in labor trafficking and 200,000 in sex trafficking in just one state (Florida), with minors making up half the population being sex-trafficked.

Since 2000, there have been over 2,400 federal trafficking prosecutions, with over 12,132 victims identified in federal cases and a total of 4,589 defendants prosecuted nationwide. Globally, the numbers are in the millions, with enforcement and identification still lagging due to the hidden nature of the crime.
